Pitrupaksha, also called Mahalaya Paksha, is a sixteen-day period in the Hindu lunar calendar dedicated to honoring ancestors. It falls during Krishna Paksha of the Bhadrapada month, typically between September and October. In 2026, it runs from 26 September to 10 October.

Who should perform these rites?

Traditionally, the eldest living male descendant of a family performs the primary rites, but in contemporary practice, any family member — son, daughter, spouse, grandchild — may participate. Our pandits will guide you on the role appropriate to your position in the family.

Do I have to be present in India?

No. Our service is built specifically for NRIs and diaspora families. You participate via WhatsApp video call. Nothing about the rite is diminished by distance.

How far in advance should I enquire?

For the Pitrupaksha fortnight, enquire as early as possible so a coordinator can check the relevant pandit, sacred site and date. Year-round rites can also be discussed personally.

Can I change dates after booking?

Yes, free of cost up to 72 hours before the scheduled rite. Within 72 hours, a rescheduling fee applies depending on the pandit's availability.

What information do I need to provide?

Names of up to three generations of ancestors, your family gotra (if known), the tithi or date of passing for a Shradh, and your intention. Our coordinator collects this over a 20-minute call before finalising.

How long does a typical pooja last?

Tarpan: 45 minutes. Pind Daan: 90 minutes. Shradh: 2.5–3 hours. Tripindi Shradh: 3–4 hours. Times are inclusive of sankalpa, mantras, offerings and aarti.

Can the pandit narrate in my language?

Yes. We have pandits fluent in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Bengali, Odia, Marathi, Maithili, Awadhi, Hindi, Sanskrit and English. You choose your pandit based on language during booking.

What if my internet drops mid-pooja?

The rite continues regardless — we never pause a vidhivat pooja for technology. Your pandit will reconnect with you as soon as possible, and the full recording is always delivered within 48 hours so you see nothing was missed.

When do I receive the recording?

HD recording is delivered via a secure link within 48 hours of the rite. The framed sankalpa parchment, if ordered, is shipped within 10 days. Sacred prasad ships internationally within 10–14 days.

Can I cancel after the pooja begins?

No. Once the sankalpa is read and the rite commences, it cannot be cancelled — scripturally or practically. Before that moment, full refunds apply per our policy.

Do you offer recurring annual rites?

Yes. After your first booking, you can set a recurring Shradh on your ancestor's tithi each year. We'll remind you six weeks ahead; the same pandit is preserved wherever possible.
